DNS Propagation Checker help and support
Answers to the most common problems with checks, watches and the Email tab of DNS Propagation Checker. If your problem is not here, email support.
First things to try
- Press Check again: a resolver that timed out or was unavailable often answers on the second try.
- Type the domain by hand if the field is empty; it is filled in only from http and https tabs.
- Enter the Expected value before you press Notify me when propagated.
- Allow Chrome notifications for your system, and keep Chrome running while a watch is active.
- Compare the remaining-TTL hint on rows that differ before you assume the change failed.
Common problems and fixes
Some resolvers show Timeout or Unavailable
That resolver did not answer in time or could not be reached from your network. Each resolver gets 5 seconds, including one retry, before the row shows Timeout or Unavailable. Press Check again; a firewall, VPN or office network that blocks DNS-over-HTTPS can make the same resolvers fail every time.
Resolvers still show the old IP address
They cached the old answer and keep it until its TTL runs out. Rows that differ show a hint such as “will refresh in about 21 min”. Start a watch to get a notification when they catch up.
I never got the “has propagated” notification
The watch notifies only when your threshold is reached and at least half of the resolvers answered. Open the Watches tab to see the last result, for example “17 / 21 match”, and lower the threshold if a few resolvers never catch up. Checks run only while Chrome is running, and the notification needs Chrome notifications to be allowed by your operating system.
The watch says “Stopped after 72 h”
Every watch stops after 72 hours, even if the record never reached the threshold. Run a new check and start the watch again if you still need it.
I can’t add another watch
You can watch up to 3 records at a time. Press Stop on an active watch in the Watches tab to make room. Watching the same record for the same value twice is also refused.
The domain field is empty when I open the popup
The domain is taken from the current tab only when it is an http or https page with a host name. On new tab pages, chrome:// pages, files or IP addresses, type the domain yourself; the last one you used is kept.
It says the domain is an IP address
To look up the name of an IP address, choose the PTR type. When you press Check with an IP address, the extension switches to PTR for you.
DKIM check says no key was found
DNS cannot list DKIM selectors, so the extension tries a set of common ones. Find the selector in the s= tag of the DKIM-Signature header of a message you sent and type it in the DKIM selector field; separate several with commas.
Google and Cloudflare return different answers on the Email tab
The Email tab asks only Google Public DNS and Cloudflare, and a different answer usually means the record changed recently. Check again later, or compare all 21 resolvers for that TXT or MX record on the Check tab.
Your data
Your last 20 checks, your watches and the last values you typed are saved in Chrome’s local extension storage on this computer. They are not synced or sent anywhere. Remove one check with its remove button or all of them with Clear history on the History tab, and delete a watch with Stop (active) or Remove (ended) on the Watches tab. To keep a result, use Copy text, Copy Markdown or Export CSV. Removing the extension deletes all of its data.
When you write to us

- Which resolvers showed Timeout, Unavailable or Bad answer, ideally the Copy text output of the table.
- For a watch: its threshold, interval and the “Last check” line from the Watches tab.
- For the Email tab: the selector you entered and the finding text that looks wrong.
- The extension name and its version from
chrome://extensions. - Your Chrome version from
chrome://settings/helpand your operating system. - What you did, what you expected and what happened instead.
