Privacy policy of the extension
Privacy policy: Sourdough Calculator
The extension calculates your dough in your browser. It has no account and no servers of ours, sends nothing to us, shows no ads and sells no data. The doughs you save stay in your browser.
Sourdough Calculator ("we", "us") is a Chrome extension, published by CWS Tools, that works out the ingredient weights of a bread, pizza or focaccia dough from baker's percentages and times its bulk fermentation and folds. It has no account and no servers of ours. We don't show ads, don't sell or share data, and don't track the pages you visit.
What the extension reads, and when
- The values you enter: flour weight and blend, hydration, starter share and starter hydration, salt, yeast, oil and sugar, the number and weight of dough balls or loaves, the dough temperature and the timer settings.
- The recipe on the current tab, only when you open the extension's popup on that tab. It reads the structured recipe data the page publishes for search engines (schema.org Recipe: the title and the ingredient list) to find the flour, water, salt, starter and yeast amounts and show them as baker's percentages. It reads nothing else on the page, and nothing on other tabs. It does not read any page before you open the popup.
What the extension keeps, and where
- Your settings (units, preset, theme, language, reminder settings), in Chrome's storage on this computer.
- My doughs, only for the formulas you save: the name you give a formula and its values. They are kept in Chrome's storage on this computer and are not uploaded. You can export them to a file on your computer, import such a file, and delete any of them in My doughs.
- While a timer runs: its start time, duration and fold reminders, so the toolbar button can show the time left.
Removing the extension deletes everything it keeps.
What leaves your computer
The extension makes no network requests: no analytics, no error reports, no servers. Its code, fonts and the QR-code generator are all inside it.
- "Open on your phone" builds a link to
https://tabandtap.com/r/that contains the formula (and, when a timer runs, its start time and length) inside the link itself, after the#sign, and shows it as a QR code on your screen. Nothing is sent when the code is shown. When you open the link on your phone, the phone loads the page from tabandtap.com, but the part after#stays on the phone: browsers do not send it to the web server, and the page shows the recipe on the phone. Anyone you give the link to can read the formula in it. - Copy puts the formula as text on your clipboard; Print opens it in a page of the extension, inside your browser.
- The "Kitchen for iPhone" note (share sheet, side panel, planner, welcome page) is an ordinary link to our page
https://tabandtap.com/kitchen/(or the app's App Store page once it is available): nothing is loaded or sent unless you click it, and then your browser opens that page in a new tab, like any link. The address carries tags that say which note you clicked (this extension and where). - Desktop reminders, only if you turn them on: Chrome shows the fold and end-of-bulk notifications on your computer. They are not sent anywhere.
What reaches us
Nothing. The extension has no analytics, no feedback form and no servers, and it sends nothing to us. If you write to us, we receive what you write and your email address, and use them only to answer you.
Permissions
- storage: to keep your settings, My doughs and the state of a running timer on this computer.
- activeTab: to read the recipe on the tab where you open the popup.
- scripting: to run the extension's own recipe reader, which is part of the extension, on that tab.
- sidePanel: to open the calculator in Chrome's side panel when you choose that.
- alarms: to keep the countdown and the fold reminders on the toolbar button on time while no extension page is open.
- notifications (optional): asked only when you turn on desktop reminders, and used only for those reminders.
The extension has no access to any website until you open its popup there.
What we don't do
No ads, no analytics or tracking, no selling or sharing of data, and no code loaded from elsewhere: everything the extension runs is inside it. We don't use data for anything other than calculating, timing and keeping the doughs you enter and save, and not to determine creditworthiness or for lending. Our use of information follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Children
Sourdough Calculator is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
Your rights
Removing the extension deletes what it keeps, and you can delete saved doughs in My doughs at any time. We hold no data about you. Where data protection laws give you rights over your information, write to us and we'll answer your request.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date above changes with it, and important changes are announced in the extension.
